It was the turn of our ‘B’ team today to enjoy a day’s croquet in unbroken sunshine at Phyllis Court, this time against our friends from High Wycombe, with a pleasant breeze off the river stopping us from sweltering. The morning started well for the home team with team captain, Andy Jones, and Russell Robinson both winning their matches comfortably in two games. Meanwhile, Dianne Browne recovered well from losing the first game to win in three, while Raghu Iyer was just on the wrong end of a tightly fought match, which meant that we took lunch on the terrace with a 3-1 lead. That became 4-1 when Robinson completed his second win, but unfortunately that was to be our high point as High Wycombe fought back valiantly to take the other three afternoon matches, two of them in the third game, thus drawing the tie at 4-4.
